ON UNIVERSITY TOWER

Stolen Vice-Regal Standard (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, April 26. The Governor-General’s standard, which was removed from Government House, Auckland, yesterday, this morning hung limply from the tower of the University of Auckland nearby. A steeplejack of 24 years’ experience, Mr A. Mudgway. said that whoever put the flag on the tower had a hard climb. Mr Mudgway took 50 minutes to retrieve the flag. The chairman of the Students’ Association (Mr J. Strevens) said later: "It is a regrettable incident and we are doing what we can to find out who it was. If we find it was a student, he will be fined and his name forwarded to the professorial board.” The flag was not damaged.
