BED-PUSHING RECORD
Trip From Timaru Completed Ten student, from the University of Canterbury School of Engineering ye»ter day broke the New Zealand non-stop bed-pushing record by pushing a bed from the Timaru Post Office to the Chief Post Office in Chriitchurch, a distance of 100 J miles. The record was held by student* of Massey Agricultural College. Palmerston North, with a distance of 57 miles. The party, led by Mr G. R. Egan, left Timaru at 6.45 a.m. on Wednesday and arrived in the Square at 1030 a.m. yesterday. The other members of the party were Messrs R. L. Shearer. D. Halstead. D. Chambers. R. H. Battersby. L. J. Peters, D. Francis. W. Bell, K. Rigg, and R. E. Fletcher.
The attempt by the Engineering School students was completely unofficial, said the capping controller (Mr P. Hargreaves) yesterday. The official attempt will be n.ade by 10 students from Canterbury Agricultural College. Starting tomorrow, they will push a bed around North Hagley Park until the start, of the bicycle race down the Avon river at 1.10 p.m. on Monday. The bed will be pushed by relays of two members who will complete two laps each. The attempt will start from Rolleston House at 1 p.m. Those taking part will ta l Messrs D Ma neon, M Callteta R.
