ELECTION IN L.R.C.
Union Official Chairman The increased interest of industrial labour in political Labour was reflected in the results of elections for officers of the Christchurch Labour Representation Committee last evening. Mr R. Jones, secretary of the Engineers’ Union, was elected chairman, and union officials replaced three “political” members of the executive. Trade union representatives were present at the meeting in greater numbers than for many years. Mr N. G. Pickering, formerly M.P for St. Albans, was elected vice-chairman, defeating an “industrial” nominee. The executive elected was Messrs F. R. Langley, R. Hill. T. M. McGuigan, J. Shankland, jun., and T. Ryder. Messrs J. Shankland, sen.. Hill, and G. Robinson were elected trustees, and Mr J. Palmer was re-elected secretary - treasurer unopposed. Those who lost their seats on the executive were Mr E. J. Bycroft. Mrs R. M. Macfarlane. the wife of the Speaker of the House of Representatives and former Mayor, and Mrs G. E. Boyd.
