CHECKS ON LIGHTS
139 Issued A total of 139 ’’tickets’’ have been issued for lighting offences since the Christchurch City Council's traffic department began Its weeklong campaign against inefficient lights on vehicles and cycles last Friday. Of ton figure, 50 involved cycles and 89 involved motor-vehicles. Besides the reported offences. -many motorists had their attention drawn to small lighting faults, which in some cases were remedied on the spot. One traffic officer stopped 34 vehicles and warned the drivers aboiit their lights. An unusual feature shown by the campaign has been the surprisingly large proportion of young persons with faulty lighting on their bicycles The “snap” ehecks also found that 13 drivers had no warrants of fitness, and nine were not carrying their driving licence*.
