STOP-WORK MEETING
Postponement For Six Days Pending a report from the Christchurch Gas Company on the decisions made by the company after conciliation discussions with representatives of .the company’s' employees, the stopwork meeting which was to have been held by the employees on Monday was postponed until next Monday. The secretary of the Christchurch Gasworkers’ Union (Mr M. W. Rhodes) said that after four hours' discussion with the union representatives—Mr F. L. Langley, president of the Canterbury district council of the Federation of Labour, Mr T. Hill (secretary of the New Zealand Gasworkers' Union), and himself—the company had decided to review the position regarding the local union president and endeavour to make his position more tenable. The stop-work meeting was called to decide what action should, be taken after
the company had transferred the union president from the work in which he was engaged to another position. Mr Rhodes said the conciliation meeting had been quite satisfactory, anti some progress had been made, but the union would not make any decision until the company's report was handed to the Conciliation Commissioner (Mr S. W. Armstrong) next Monday, and studied by the union.
