Sir Wilfrid Kent Hughes is chairman of the Parliamentary Foreign ‘ Affairs Committee. He left Sydney with Lady Kent Hughes by air last night for a three-month oolitical fact-finding tour of the United States. Britain, and Western Europe. He said the Russian vessels were operating among the islands north of New Guinea and as far east as Samoa. "In military terms, these Russian ships are appreciating the situation,” he said. Firm Stand He said the ships also had been operating in the Bay of Bengal. The Western world had been losing the cold war so fast in the last two years that unless it was prepared to take a firm stand nothing would be left to lose. “We will find ourselves isolated in the south-west Pacific if we are not careful," he said.
