LONDON. April 26. < The Australian team for the I first match of the tour at Wor- i cester. starting on Saturday, t was announced this morning. I It is, in batting order:— 1 C. Macdonald, R. Simpson, N. Harvey, N. O'Neill, B 1 Booth, K. Mackay. R. Benaud i (captain), W. Grout I. Quick. 1 F. Misson and R. Gaunt. The i twelfth man is B. Jarman. J Benaud. who announced the team, said it had been decided J not to announce the team for ; the secend match against i Derbyshire this morning. He ( had originally intended to i name both teams together, s but said he had changed his mind. t The side for the second « match would be announced at f Worcester. All 17 players < would get a game in the first 1 two matches, he added. c The side had been selected “partly for the conditions we 1 think we will strike at Wor- t cester.” I He went on to say that he c had been in touch with the 1 secretary of the Worcester 1
Club, who told him there had been a lot of rain in the area and that the ground was damp. “We may well have a blank day there," said Benaud. Misson. Gaunt and Mackay would form the fast attack against Worcestershire, while Davidson and McKenzie would spearhead it against Derbyshire. The team’s viee-captain. N Harvey, who missed training yesterday with a “sweat rash” is in the side. He said this morning that he was fit and expected to have a knock at the nets today. ft has always been a tradition that touring sides select their probable test team for the match against Worcestershire. but the Australians have in Davidson’s case, deoarted from tradition. Three of the bowlers— Misson. Gaunt and Quickwill be making their first appearance in England. Obviously Benaud wants to see how they will re-act to Englis hconditions.
