COQUILHATVILLE. < April 25. ’ Katanga's President < Tshombe walked out on fol- < low Congo leaders today after ’ denouncing President Kasa- < vubu. of the Leopoldville Central Government, for “selling out the Congolese people to the United Nations." With sarcastic and stinging insults, he plunged tl>e Congo back to the division and conflict of its first months of independence. Associated Press said. He refused further cooperation and discussion with the Central Government ‘ without a solemn denunciation of the recent agreement between President Kasavubu and the United Nations—which, he said, “humiliated all the people of the Congo.” ( Attempts at a reconciliation last night failed to close the gap opened yesterday when President Tshombe addressed the Congolese politicians behind closed doors at their Coquilhatville meeting. The timidity of the Leopoldville Government. he said, "makes real national- . ists sick at heart. “I no longer believe presi- ' dent Kasavubu really has the strength to resist the will of the United Nations,” he , said. President Tshombe stipulated three conditions for his continued participation in the
Coquilhatville conference. These conditions Mem obviously unacceptable by the Central Government leader*. They were: “A solemn denunciation of the Kasavubu - United Nation! agreement calling for an immediate withdrawal of all foreign adviser* not engaged under President Kasevubu's authority. This agreement was dearly aimed at President Tshombe'* numerous Belgian counsellors. A protest to the United Nations over the “attack'’ on Katanga forces by United Nations Ethiopian troops at Kabalo earlier this month. Only legal authorities who took part in the Tananarive conference should bo allowed to participate at Coquilhatville. This was clearly directed against the long-time Katanga enemy, the leader of the North Katanga Balubakats. Mr Jason Sendwe. The Leopoldville Prime Minister (Mr Joseph Deo> and other speakers made no attempt to answer theoe conditions.
