ASHBURTON, April 28. The New Zealand non-stop bed-pushing record was won for the South Island this evening. In driving rain, and with a dead rabbit as passenger, a team of 10 students from the School of Engineering at Canterbury University, led by G. R. Egan, of Christchurch. broke the 57-tnile record set by Massey College students two weeks ago. About 9 p.m. the students (*'We wanted to do something different for capping week”) exceeded the old record as they pushed the bed along about six miles north of Ashburton. They left the Timaru Post Office at 6.45 a.m. today and planned to cover more than 100 miles before arriving at the Christchurch Post Office about 9.30 a.m. tomorrow. The dead rabbit was draped across the front of the regulation hospital bed (“By [courtesy of the North Canterbury Hospital Board”). Where had the rabbit come from?
