FORECAST TO MIDNIGHT Situation: A ridge of high pressure extends on to the southern half of the South Island. A cold front has become slow moving over central New Zealand. Forecast: Marlborough, Nelson, Buller and Westland.— Moderate to fresh south-east winds about the Sounds, otherwise light to moderate variable winds; partly cloudy in South Westland, cloudy with occasional rain elsewhere; moderate temperatures. Outlook: partly cloudy. Canterbury.—Light to moderate variable winds, north-easterlies predominating about the coast; cloudy, with areas of drizzle, especially about and north of Banks Peninsula, but improving to partly cloudy by afternoon in inland areas of South Canterbury; cool temperatures. Outlook: partly cloudy.
