“Cut Not Being Considered” Preus Association) WELLINGTON. April 25. **l am heartened and comforted by the statements made by three Otago workers' organisations protesting against the abolition of food subsidies, because it seems that the only criticism these people can make of the Government is a protest that is based on sheer imagination,” said the Prime Minister (Mr Holyoake) today. His attention bad been drawn to a joint statement issued by the Hillside branches of the Railway Tradesmen's Association and the Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants and another statement by the Otago and Southland Fretting Workers' Union, which protested strongly against] *bol; U °a W Mr Holyoake said that he had noticed similar resolutions or statements had been i issued by a number of trade ' union organisations in recent weeks, and it was obvious that the Federation of ■ Labour had asked key . unions to pass these resolui tions. There had never been the , slightest justification for the . criticism for there had never I been a proposal to reduce > subsidies before the Cabinet.
