PLAYS THIS WEEK
“Man Alive** And. “Henry IV** The Risingholme Con?, munity Centre’s presentation of the comedy “Man Alive”— to be presented in the Risingholme theatre on April 29 and May 1 and 2—and the presentation of Henry IV. part 1, by the Christ’s College Dramatic Society—to be staged in the Museum lecture Hall this evening—have both been produced by Yvette Bromley. "Man Alive" is by the author of the well-known “The Happiest Days of Your Life,” John Dighton. Its plot centres around a shop window-model coming to life. The model has been subjected to the rays of an ultra-violet ray lamp which gives him the urge to press his attentions on every women he meets. The role of Waldorf the model is to be played by Basil Briggs. In presenting Henry TV. part 1, with the Christ’s College boys, Mrs Bromley is following her own policy, over the last few years, of presenting “short, painless and comprehensible” versions of Shakespeare’s plays in the school’s productions. This evening the performance will last for one hour and a half without any interval. Mrs Bromley said that all obscure lines had been cut but the long poetical speeches had been left in. The costumes are as bright and authentic as possible and the accent is on the comedy, the sword play and the songs. Later in the year Mrs Bromley hopes to present “Ah. Wilderness!” by Eugene O’Neill for the Theatre Arts Guild and “The First Bom” for the Religious Drama Society in the Civic Theatre.
