Funeral For Senator

(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) WASHINGTON, May 4. About 500 persons filed through a funeral parlour in Washington last night to view the body of Senator Joseph McCarthy. A folded American flag lay on a pew at the foot of the coffin, which was flanked by two marines. Senator McCarthy, controversial Republican Senator for Wisconsin, died on Thursday from a liver ailment.

His body will lie in state until Monday. After a service in the Senate chamber on Monday, it will be flown to Appleton, Wisconsin, for services and burial on Tuesday. Preceding the Senate service, a High Mass will be celebrated at St. Matthews’ Cathedral on Monday by the Most Rev. Patrick O’Boyle, Roman Catholic Archbishop of Washington.
