INTERMEDIA TE SCHOOLS
New Committees Elected
Intermediate school committees’ were elected at the four Christchurch schools’ of this type last evening. These differ from the recent householders’ meetings to elect primary committees in that only parents’ of pupils may vote for five seats and the other four places are taken by nominees from the four primary schools which send pupils on to each intermediate school. The Linwood meeting lasted for three hours, of which more than two hours was spent on a debate on finances. The retiring committee reported that it could not present a full statement because it had not received a balancesheet from the staff on the “school fund.” to which 10s a pupil is contributed by parents to pay for manual training instruction. sports gear, and manv other items. The staff claimed that this was not committee business but presented a detailed statement to the meeting. Those present accepted both the committee’s and the staff’s financial reports, expressed confidence in both bodies, and indicated that, although the Canterbury Education Board requires all funds raised in the name of a school to be administered bv the committee, parents believed detailed management should be left in the hands of the staff. The following committees were elected:— Linwood— Messrs M. E. Barnden. V. Beaumont, L. W. Claridge. M. L. J. Jenkins, and Mrs B. D. White (parents’ representatives) R. W. Tavlor (Linwood Avenue).
