Beef Prices Rise 10s Per 1001 b Frozen beef prices have been raised 10s per 1001 b in the latest ■ export meat schedule, which became effective yesterday. Boner cow and boner bull prices are un- * changed. ( The following prices are for stock delivered to the nearest < Marlborough, Canterbury, Otago, or Southland works:—
LINSEED OIL 1 Dunedin Factory In ‘ Production Again Linseed, oil and stock foods are now being turned out by a Dunedin processing plant, built dur- ' ing World War 11, after it had been idle for two years. The seed, now being made into oil ■ and stock food, was all grown in the South Island under contract ■ on farms between North Canterbury and Southland. Almost all the crop has come ' into the factory, and many bags have been selected for resowing , for next season. Mr A. J. D. Robb, manager for I the owners of the factory, DominI ion Industries, Ltd., said that an ample supply had come forward in a remarkably disease-free coni ditlon. However, before any was 1 returned to the farmers it would ' be cleaned and processed. The I factory is the only one in New ■ Zealand producing linseed oil. ‘ It is expected to refine about 100,000 gallons each year; enough 5 to reduce appreciably the amount 1 which the country must import. ' The firm intends also to manu--3 facture linseed-based stock foods. > Australian Car Sales t The marked increase in sales i, of replacement parts for cars > showed that many owners were overhauling their cars rather s than purchasing new units. s The chairman of York Motor s (Holdings), Ltd., Mr Maurice • Shmith, said this at the annual t meeting of the company in Syd--1 ney recently. e Sales of vehicles by the com- ’ pany declined during the last 5 eight months of the year ended November 30. ~ The decline was caused by the steep increase in sales-tax on j motor-vehicles, and the restric- , tion of credit, Mr Shmith said. * Cars in the £l5OO to £2300 field 1 and heavy commercial vehicles were mainly affected. s Import Licensing 1 Changes The following amendments to the import licensing schedule have been announced by the Customs Department:— Chain Saw Parts.—Consideration will be given to applications from regular importers of chain saws for J licences to import replacement parts J for chain saws, not being attachments or accessories, from scheduled countries. Applications should be restricted to the applicant’s normal annual requirements, and licences so issued will be available only for the importation from scheduled countries of Identifiable spare parts of chain saws which would be exempt licence if imported from O.T.S.C. countries. Any licence so granted is to be J noted to the effect that it is not j available for the Importation of spare parts which are subject to licence when imported from nonscheduled countries. Hairdriers.—The import licensing J category in the 1957 licensing schedule for pedestal-type electric hairdriers is changed from SD (no allocation at present provided, but applications considered for imports of a kind not made in New Zealand) to C (goods for which licences are considered individually).
