DECIMAL COINAGE INQUIRY

Submissions Soon To Be Invited

(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, May 6. The Minister of Finance (Mr J. T. Watts) said today that the Decimal Coinage Committee had held its first meeting, and would soon invite written submissions from persons interested in decimal coinage.

He said that, in view of the importance of the investigation to the commercial community, he had asked the committee to make every endeavour to complete its task with the least possible delay.

The members of the committee are: Messrs A. B. Taylor (DeputySecretary of the Treasury), chairman; N. E. Dalmer (Department of Industries and Commerce), A. W. Graham (New Zealand Society of Accountants). P. Proctor (New Zealand Manufacturers’ Federation), E. R. Norman (New Zealand Retailers’ Federation), G. C. Broad (Associated Chambers of Commerce), F. C. Bennett (Associated banks), G. Wilson (Reserve Bank), D. B. McDonald (Federation of Labour), A. Sutherland (Royal Numismatic Society), and W. G. V. Fernie (New Zealand Employers’ Federation). Federated Farmers had not yet advised the name of its nominee, but had been represented at the meeting by Mr J. C. Adams, said Mr Watts.
