DUCKSHOOTER KILLED
Stood Up In Line Of Fire (New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, May 6. A man was killed in a shooting accident at Ngahape, near Otorohanga, at 10.30 a.m. today. He was Andrew McKenzie, ageH 47, a fisherman, of Thames, married, with four children. Mr McKenzie had been shooting duck from a miamia with a companion. They then entered the swamp and began shooting at pukeko. Mr McKenzie is reported to have stood up just as his companion fired at a pukeko, and he was killed instantly. TRUCK DRIVER DROWNED Vehicle Runs Off Road Into Sea (New Zealand Press Association) WHANGAREt, May 6. A man was drowned when he was trapped under an overturned truck at Mangawhai today. He was: Joe Creek, aged 58, married, with five children, a fencing contractor of Kaiwaka. Mr Creek was driving his truck along a causeway about half a mile east of Mangawhai when it left the road and fell into the sea. The accident was discovered some time later, and when the truck was moved Mr Creek was found trapped underneath.
Names Of Drowned Men Announced (New Zealand Pres, Association) INVERCARGILL, May 6. The two men who lost their lives when their car crashed through the railings of a bridge and plunged into a small river on the Centre Hill station road on Saturday night were:— John Owen Harris, aged 35. and Liston James Nairn, aged 46. Neither is believed to have had any relatives in Southland. They were employed by Contract Cultivation, of Dunedin, and were working on the Te Anau road, where they lived in a works camp.
