CURRENT NOTES
Dr. G. E. Currie, Vice-Chancel-lor of the University of New Zealand, and Mrs Currie will be the guests of Dr. and Mrs H. D. Broadhead. Cashmere, for the capping celebrations at Canterbury University College this week.
The annual meeting of the executive council of Old Girls’ Associations was held recently at the home of the secretary (Miss Mavis Reese). The value of the results obtained by the combined efforts of the associations was emphasised by the president (Mrs Pitcaithly) in her report. Miss Valmai Fleming showed some films of a recent trip to Queensland. The following officers were elected: president, Mrs T. G. Campbell (Southland Girls’ High School Old Girls’ Association): vice-president, Mrs C. Hart (Rangi-ruru Old Girls’ Association); secretary, Miss Reese. A gathering of blind persons and friends was recently entertained at a musical afternoon presented by Mesdames F. Cooper. M. Marshall, R. Storie, E. Scrimgeour, G. Benson, N. Wright, G. Lake, and J. Russell, at “Maryknoll,” Cashel street.
A minute of appreciation of the services given by Mrs R. A. Ewing to the National Council of Women and the International Council of Women from 1940 to 1955 was recorded at the annual meeting of the Dunedin branch recently. The president (Mrs H. G. Woolman) presented Mrs Ewing with flowers to mark the council’s regret at her retirement.
