GREAT LOSS TO NEW ZEALAND

Mr Nash’s Tribute

(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, May 5.

“I am deeply sorry to hear of Sir Howard Kippenberger’s death,” said the Leader of the Opposition (Mr Nash) tonight. “He was one of the greatest figures in New Zealand’s military history, always brilliant in the field. I have never known anyone bear such suffering, so quietly and with so little fuss.” New Zealand could not have found a better man to look after her war history, Mr Nash said. He had given splendid service to the Labour Government, and had carried on with the same sort of service to the present Government.

“He will be missed by everyone who knew him. I personally had the profoundest respect for his character, and ability,” Mr Nash added. *'
