Chess JUGOSLAV WINS TITLE

(N.Z. Press Association Copyright) (Rec. 8 p.m.) LONDON, May 4. A 35-year-old Belgrade journalist won the International Chess Congress at Bognor Regis, Sussex, today. He is S. Gligoric, the Jugoslav grand master who fought with Tito’s partisans when he was 16. The title was decided when the challengers, R. G. Wade (New Zealand) and M. Rakic (Jugoslavia), drew their tenth round game with seven points. Gligoric, who had started the final round today with seven and a half points, went on to draw with the 22-year-old Essex player, Peter Clarke. This gave Gligoric the title with eight points. Clarke finished with six a half.
