Boxing DEATH AFTER KNOCKOUT

South African, J. Elliott

(N.Z. Press Association—. Copyright) (Rec. 8 p.m.) JOHANNESBURG, May 5. Jimmy Elliott, the South African middle-weight boxer, died in a nursing home early today after being knocked out by the British Empire champion, Pat McAteer, in an Empire title fight last night. Ellxott was taken to hospital after the bout. In the sixth round Elliott struggled to his feet after taking the count of eight. He obviously was in a bad state, and then collapsed and lay unconscious. A doctor sprang into the ring immediately and called for oxygen. The oxygen was rushed into the ring and applied to Elliott, but he did not appear to respond. Elliott was carried from the ring on a stretcher and taken to Johannesburg Hospital.
