TERRORISTS IN CYPRUS
“No Let-Up Planned By Britain”
(Rec. 8 p.m.) LONDON, May 1.
The Colonial Secretary (Mr Alan Lennox-Boyd) said today that it would be out of the question to ask the Governor of Cyprus or the British Government to suspend operations against the terrorists so long as armed men were still at large in Cyprus. Mr Lennox-Boyd was answering questions in the House of
Commons about the campaign in Cyprus for union with Greece. Mr James Callaghan (Labour) had urged the Minister to take some political initiative and discuss the future of Cyprus with the Cypriots. Mr Lennox-Boyd said the release from exile of Archbishop Makarios, leader of the Union-with-Greece movement, showed there was no lack of initiative by the Government.
Menzies to Rest.—The Prime Minister (Mr Menzies) is still suffering from fatigue and fever which developed on his return from his visit to Asia. He was again absent when the House of Representatives met today and it was announced that he would rest until the beginning of next week. —Canberra, May 2.
