N.Z. TRADE TALKS
End Not Yet In Sight
(Special Correspondent N.Z.P.A.) LONDON, May 1. “The picture is not yet clear enough for us to judge when our talks will be concluded,” said the Deputy-Prime Minister of New Zealand (Mr K. J. Holyoake) after a plenary session attended by the full New Zealand trade mission and the British delegation headed by Sir David Eccles. President of the Board of Trade, and Mr Heathcoat Amory. Minister of Agriculture.
This session was requested by Mr Holyoake, who had talked with the Prime Minister (Mr Macmillan) at Downing street on Monday.
Mr Holyoake added that the commodities committees would continue discussions “on a number of subjects.” He said he could give no indication whether the exchange of views with the British Ministers at the plenary session had been satisfactory or unsatisfactory. It appears that the talks are at a “delicate stage.” and it is possible that the question of quotas being imposed by Britain on foreign produce might have been discussed today.
