Britain Cuts Price Of Petrol

LONDON, May 1.

British petroleum companies annunced today a cut of a penny a gallon in retail petrol prices from tomorrow.

Increased consumption has enabled them, after consultation with the Government, to reduce by a halfpenny a gallon the emergency surcharge introduced following ti.e closing of the Suez Canal and another halfpenny a gallon is being taken off the dealers’ margin. But in Paris the price of super grade petrol in the Paris region today rose by 90 centimes to 81.50 francs a litre (about 7s 5d a gallon), an increase of about three-farthings.
