RAISING OF SPEED LIMIT
Renewal Of Approach By Motor Unions (New Zealand Press Association) ’ WELLINGTON, May 2. Further efforts are to be made by the North and South Island Motor Unions to have the 50 miles an hour speed limit abolished on selected high-class roads. The president of the North Island Union (Mr W. H. Brown) told its council that the Road Safety Council in March had rejected the suggestion that the speed limit be; raised on the fourlane motorways and other specific stretches of road. The Commissioner of Transport has already been approached, without success. Mr F. G. Farrell (Auckland) suggested an approach direct to the Minister of Transport (Mr W. S. Goosman). The meeting decided to ask the Minister to receive a deputation to put forward to him the effect of a resolution on the subject passed by the annual conference at Waikarei of the two motor unions.
