STRIKE PLAN DEFERRED
Plans Of British Doctors (N.Z. Press Association Copyright) (Rec. 10 p.m.)
LONDON, May 1. British doctors have decided to postpone a decision on whether to go on strike against the National Health Service.
The doctors, demanding a 24 per cent, wage rise, have plans ready for a progressive withdrawal of general practitioners from the service beginning on October 2, but in London today the council of the British Medical Association asked a special meeting of its members to defer a decision.
The meeting also agreed to postpone a decision on the question of giving evidence to a Royal Commission which has been set up to inquire into the pay of doctors. Recommending this, the council said the profession had yet to study statements made by the chairman of the commission and a recent letter from the Ministry of Health.
