New St. Mary’s Church

The contract for the new St. Mary’s Church, in Manchester street, has been let to the Christchurch firm of Charles S. Luney, Ltd. Pile driving under a separate contract was completed a few weeks ago by Wilkins and Davies Construction Company, Ltd. The new church was designed by Manson, Seward, and Stanton, a firm of Christchurch architects. There will be room for 700 worshippers in the church. Designed as a modern example of the traditional style, it will be built of reinforced concrete. Red brick veneer will face the exterior walls, and the roof will be finished in slate-coloured tiles.
