Athletics M. LINCOLN TO VISIT U.S.

Milers

The Australian middle distance runner, Mervyn Lincoln, will race against four other four-minute milers during his five-weefc. tour of the United States, Mr Dan Ferris, secretary of the United States Amateur Athletic Union, said today.
Mr Ferris said Lincoln’s first meeting would be the Coliseum relays at Los Angeles on May 24. Then he would run at the relays at Modesto (California) on May 25. the Compton (California) relays on May 31, and the four California A.A.U. associations meeting at Bakersfield (California) on June 8. The climax of hia tour would be the National Amateur Athletic Union championship at Dayton (Ohio) 'on June 21-22.
Lincoln said in Melbourne he was looking forward to competing against Ron Delany (Ireland) and Jim Bailey (Australia), both of whom have bettered four minutes for the mile Delany is a student at the University of Villanova and Bailey attends the University of Oregon. At the Coliseum relays and at Modesto. Lincoln will meet two other four-minute milers,. Brian Hewson and Derek Ibbotson, of Britain.
