COMMERCIAL Several Good Gains In Active Market
A long list of sales recorded yesterday by the Christchurch Stock Exchange was spread over most sections of the quotation list. More than £l7OO worth of Government stock and local body debentures and 5900 shares changed hands. N.Z. Refrigerating sold 2s up on last local business and buyers of other frozen meat shares raised their bids. Canterbury Frozen Meat were wanted at £27 5s —25s above last local business. South British Insurance also made a notable gain to sell at 90s, and N.Z. Insurance advanced more cautiously to sell at 84s 3d. Goldsbrough Mort, Beaths, 8.H.P., Burns Philp, 1.C.1.A.N.Z. and Whakatane all made gains. Christchurch Gas, paid, in first ex div business, were steady. The contributing shares, which have not been sold for some time, were slightly firmer.
The only shares which lost ground were Australian issues—Bank of N.S.W., Ampol, A.W.A., E.Z. Industries aiyl Waltons.
