“Thou Shalt Not Kill”

Sir, —“Humble Harry” should have read his text more carefully. That might have saved him from wholly perverting the meaning of the passage. St. Matthew, chapter 10, verse 34, has nothing whatever to do with war. Our Lord was warning His disciples that if they were loyal to His teaching they would meet with opposition and persecution, even from their closest friends, such as those mentioned in verses 35 and 36. May I ask “Humble Harry” to read these verses? And should like to think that any who were disturbed by his letter will do the same. They will then be as sure as I am that “Humble Harry” uttered plain nonsense when he wrote “ ‘Thou shalt not kill’ contradicts Matthew, chapter 10, verse 34.”—Yours, etc., F. N. TAYLOR. May 1, 1957.
