Waimairi Roads
Sir, —At risk of arousing the ire of the engineer, may I draw attention to the wanton neglect of sealed roads in the Waimairi County. I refer more particularly to Lower Styx and Johns roads. These are not too wide for the volume of traffic they carry, but a neglectful or ignorant works department, by its indifference, is allowing these irreplaceable assets to deteriorate far too rapidly, particularly at the edges. I say irreplacable because no amount of half-hearted and spasmodic patching can ever restore these fine surfaces to their original rendition. Soon they will be only as good as Christchurch streets or the City end of Marshland r.»ad, unless really sound corrective measures are ‘pplied immediately.—Yours, etc., A SPENCERVILLIAN VILLAIN April 25, 1957. [The county clerk of Waimairi (Mr K. Maclachlan), to whom this letter was referred, advised that the council has noted the correspondent’s comments.!
