THEFT FROM TEA KIOSK
Vandalism In Survey Building
Thieves forced an entry into the kiosk in the Botanic Gardens some time during Tuesday night or yesterday morning, and stole about £5O worth of stock. Cigar ettes. chocolate, and biscuits were the main items.
Probably associated with this theft was the entry by thieves into the Magnetic Survey building in the Botanic Gardens. The building is close to the kiosk.
Thwarted in their search for money—they could only find a few shillings from a tea fund—the thieves turned to vandalism. Every drawer in the building was opened and its contents scattered about the flpor. A watch belonging to one of the staff and two watches used for survey work were stolen.
Maps were ripped from the walls and torn into pieces. The survey staff spent most of yesterday trying to restore order. Library index cards were scattered throughout the building. Nothing was taken which would affect the work of the survey, the direptor (Mr A. L. Cunnington) said yesterday morning. “The intruders created more of a nuisance than a loss," he said. Members of the Criminal Investigation Branch are investigating.
