MACMILLAN MAY GO TO MOSCOW
Commonwealth Peace Plan Reported (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) (Rec. 10 p.m.) LONDON, May 1. The “Daily Mail” said today that the Prime Minister (Mr Macmillan) would meet Marshal Bulganin in Moscow in the autumn after Britain had tested her hydrogen bomb.
The newspaper said: “The Prime Minister will take Mr Selwyn Lloyd (the Foreign Secretary) with him. They will put to Marshal Bulganin and Mr Khrushchev a peace plan backed by the whole British Commonwealth.
“This will be drawn up by the Commonwealth Prime Ministers when they meet in London next month.”
Mr Macmillan has sent an interim reply to the personal letter sent him by Marshal Bulganin last week. Mr Macmillan told a questioner in Parliament yesterday that in the reply to Marshal Bulganin he said: "I wish to thank you for the message you sent to me through Mr Malik (Mr Jakob Malik, Soviet Ambassador in London) on April 20 and fully appreciate the care which you have given to the study of all these questions and the interest you show in improving the relations between our two countries. “Your letter raises a large number of important issues and I am sure you will agree that the points you make will require careful study. “When I have had time to examine them more fully, I hope to send you a furthex reply.”
