ROCK 'N’ ROLLER BREAKS HIS NECK
(New Zealand Press Association)
PALMERSTON NORTH, April 30. A young man who fell heavily and broke his neck during a rock ’n’ roll demonstration at a house at Sanson on Saturday night, died in Palmerston North Hospital today. He was Walter Raymond Walls, aged 25, of Kent street, Carterton.
The accident occurred at a “tin canning” party at the home of some friends of Mr Walls. During the evening, another guest offered to give a demonstration of rock ’n’ roll. His first attempt with Mr Walls who, it is
believed, was a novice, was completed successfully, but on the second occasion, Mr Walls fell heavily while being swung to his partner’s shoulder. An inquest, opened before Mr H. Greenwood, J.P., in Palmerston North today, was adjourned sine die after evidence of identification. In one form of “rock ’n roll,” the female is swung through her partner’s legs and on to his shoulder.
