Common Error. — Toll exchange superintendents say that there is a popular belief that calls to places less than* 40 miles away are charged at reduced rates after 6 p.m. They notice a sudden flood of short-distance traffic then. The facts are that reduced rates after 6 p.m. to 8 a.m. apply only to calls over distances of more than 40 miles.
