SCHEMER WINS AT METHVEN
Only Horse To Qualify
Schemer, a four-year-old halfbrother by Red Flight to a champion two-year-old several seasons ago in Vivanti, was the only horse to qualify in three heats at trials held at Methven yesterday by the Mid-Canterbury Trotting Owners’ and Breeders’ Association. Schemer Is trained by G. Vivian for Mr G. Rutherford, and he was driven by A. M. Purdon. Captivus went away in the lead early, followed by Schemer. The leader set a strong pace, the first mile taking 2m in 16 3-ssec. Schemer raced past Captivus with two furlongs to run, and won easing up by 30 lengths. The winner of the second heat, Confide, failed by only two-fifths of a second to record the required 3min 30sec for the mile and a half. Results: —
