POLL HEREFORD BREEDERS
British Honour For New Zealander
“The Press” Special Service AUCKLAND, April 30.
The council of the Poll Hereford Breeders of Great Britain has invited Mr C. E. Robertson, of Athenree and recently of Wellington, to become an honorary life member of the association. This honour is in reward for the efforts of Mr Robertson in the selection of the first shipment of Poll Herefords to England from New Zealand. Mr Robertson was responsible for the initial importation of this breed to New Zealand from the United States in 1925 and later established a big trade in the breed with Australia.
Since the first shipment was made to England in 1955, a second consignment has been successfully landed there and a third is now being selected. When Mr Robertson was head of the stud stock department of Wright, Stephenson and Company. Ltd., he was widely known as an international judge of cattle in North and South America and also in Australia, and he was successful in establishing many overseas markets for New Zealand cattle and sheep as well as thoroughbred horses.
