Nehru’s Election Challenged
(N.Z. Press Association— Copyright) (Rec. 10 p.m.) ALLAHABAD, April 29.
The election of Mr Nehru, the Prime Minister, to the Indian Lower House of Parliament has been challenged. Mr Nehru represents Phulpur, in Allahabad. A petition has been filed with local courts by his runner-up in the election, Mr Sitaram Khekma, who is secretary of the All-India Cow Protection Society and who stood as an Independent. In his petition, Mr Khekma asks that Mr Nehru’s election should be declared void on the ground that he took advantage of privileges attached to the Prime Minister’s office. It is claimed he used Government vehicles during his election campaign and employed Government servants to canvass for him.
