Miss Nancy Wyse, formerly of Christchurch, now in television in Melbourne, was the guest speaker at a meeting of the Pioneers’ and Descendants’ Club recently. Miss Wyse is on holiday in Christchurch. The secretary (Mrs Elsie White) and Mrs C. Foweraker were the hostesses.

The April meeting of the Halswell Garden Club was held recently, when the vice-president, Mrs T. W. C. Tothill, presided. A talk on the culture of chrysanthemums was given by Mr F. A. Judkins. Competition results were: decorative, class A, Miss M. Watling 1; class B, Mrs T. Tothill 1, Mrs W. G. Guileford 2, Mrs J. Overton 3; cut blooms, large, Mrs P. Gunningham 1, Mrs C. E. McDermott 2: small. Mrs Gulleford 1. Mrs Cunningham 2. Mrs Muir 3; medium, Mrs A. Pickering 1. Mrs J. Molloy 2. Mrs Muir 3; spike, Mrs Pickering 1. Mrs Guileford 2: cluster. When the Friends of the Disabled held a social evening in their rooms recently, Miss Jean Trotter gave an interesting and humorous talk on her world tour. Arrangements were made to hold a fair later in the year. Mrs H. Bishop presided.

Mrs G. Lindley presided at the April meeting of the Fendaltbn Townswomen’s Guild, when three new members were welcomed. Miss Craddock, of the Crippled Children Society, spoke on the care and welfare of crippled children. Members of the Christchurch branch of the League for the Hard of Hearing were recently entertained by a concert party from the Bryndwr Womens Institute under the leadership of Mrs Roberts. A programme of musical items, recitations and a tap dance was organised by Mrs E. Locke and presented to the Home Economics Association at its recent annual meeting. The following officers were elected: president, Miss E. N. Killner; vice-presidents, Mrs L. Rollings and Miss C. E. Wardle; secretary-treasurer, Mrs R. W. Borland; committee, Mesdames H. Andrews, V. Gaine, G. H Garton, C. H. Hudson, E. H. Lord, I. E. Whittle, O. M. Marshall, B. G. Menzies, R. P. O’Brien, R. A. Parton, E. M. Penney, Watts, I. E. Smith, G. Willis, Misses L. Conway, M. H. Watson and W. Werren.
