THE LINKWATER HOTEL, near Picton, which is to be replaced by a modern hotel at the Grove, about two miles and a half away. Possessing a bar only 15 feet wide, the Linkwater was an outbuilding of the 100-year-old original hotel destroyed by fire last year. In the gold rush days of 1884, Linkwater had a population of several thousands, but it is now a village of about 100 inhabitants.
