Thomson Beaten By One Stroke

LOUISVILLE (Kentucky), April 28.' Bill Casper putted faultlessly today to win the Kentucky Derby open golf tournament by one i stroke from Peter Thomson, of Australia,
Casper, who started the day with a Jtwo-stroke lead over Thomson and two others, ran his lead over the Australian to five strokes with four straight birdies from the seventh to the tenth holes. Then Thomson, playing in the same threesome, began to chip away at Casper’s lead.
Casper, out in 31, hung on for a 70. one under scratch, giving him a 72-hole total of 277 ( 68, 68. 71.: 70) and first prize of 4300 dollars.; Thomson scored a 69 today for ' a total of 278 <69, 68, 72, 69). He' won 3000 dollars. Finishing in third place at 280 ; was the former, national open champion, Julius Boros, who scored a final round of 65, six i strokes under scratch and a new ; competitive record for the Seneca ; golf course. Boros had earlier' rounds of 76, 69. and 70.

Central Otago Rail-cars—The ' discontinuance of rail-car services I ordered by the General Manager ; of Railways (Mr A. T. Gandell) ' on the Central Otago route is not ; being extended to other rail-car ■ services in New Zealand. This was said by the Minister of Railway’s <Mr J. K. McAlpine) yesterday. He said that the temporary ! stoppage applied only to Central Otago to permit an 'investigation I of both the track and the rail-cars I in view of three derailments over the last few weeks.—(P-AJ
