COMMERCIAL Confident Opening Tone Of Sharemarket

A confident tone was evident on the sharemarket when New Zealand Stock Exchanges reopened yesterday after the Easter recess. A small volume of business was done but most shares were firm or firmer on quotation.

Amalgamated Wireless, in a late sale on April 18, were fractionally firmer in Christchurch, and yesterday’s sellers raised their limits. Woolworths made good gains in sales in Christchurch and elsewhere. Ampol and Waltons sold at prices below those last recorded in Christchurch.

Shares which improved on quotation were Ballins Breweries, Christchurch Gas, ex div, Huddart Parker, Coles and Whitcombe and Tombs. No Government stock changed hands in Christchurch, but yields on stock sold in Wellington all showed a drop on pre-Easter levels.
