STUDENTS’ REVUE
Opening Night At Methven
‘‘Up The Pole,” this year’s students’ revenue, opened on Saturday, not with the traditional first night in Christchurch, but in Methven. A project for improving Mid-Canterbury sports facilities, at present being financed through a queen carnival, benefited by about £l2O. The producer, Mr Mervyn Glue, had some apprehensions about opening in a country town, before the cast had had the benefit of a dress rehearsal. However, his doubts vanished when he saw Meth ven’s new £32.000 memorial hall. All seats, at 12s 6d and 8s 6d, had been sold in two days. Sets, costumes, and 194 students were taken to Methven in four buses and two trucks at a cost of £l4O. Additional expenses cost a further £4O, leaving £l2O for the sponsors. The revue will open in Christchurch on Friday.
