Lists Of Justices Of The Peace
Sir,—ln March, 1956, the Department of Justice undertook the revision of the “Commission of the Peace” (list of J.P.’s) to discover correct addresses and deceasees. Some of us communicated with the Secretary of Justice urging that some form of publicity be undertaken by the Government to keep the public business people) informed of J.P.’s and their addresses. Lists in the telephone directories were suggested. It is now over 12 months since the revision of the “Commission of the Peace’’ was undertaken, and
that is the last we have heard of it. The telephone directories carry the letters “J.P.” after the names of those persons who have taken the trouble to ask for their insertion, but it is still as difficult as ever to find a J.P., especially when wanted urgently, though the police seem able to hunt up J.P.’s when wanted for the Saturday Bench. —Yours, etc., J. PELICAN IN WILDERNESS. April 29, 1957.
