LABOUR PARTY IN QUEENSLAND
Campaign Against Premier BRISBANE, April 29 The Labour Party’s Queensland central executive, which expelled the Premier (Mr Vincent Gair) last week, has launched one of the strongest political campaigns in the history of the State. Labour leaders said yesterdav that their “all in” campaign for an election would charge the Gair Government with malpractices. The Leader of the Opposition Country Party (Mr John Nicklin) said last night that his party would support Mr Gair. The party’s 16 votes will give the Premier 42 votes in a House of 75. Queensland’s Deputy Premier and Minister of Transport (Mr John Duggan), in a broadcast last night, declared opposition to Mr Gair. He is expected to resign from the Cabinet today. When Mr Gair was expelled on April 23 because of his refusal to carry out instructions, including a demand that he legislate for three weeks’ annual leave for State workers, all his Cabinet
Ministers—with the exception of Mr Duggan—pledged their support.
