MINOR FIRES

Short Circuit In Neon Sign A short circuit in a neon sign on top of a building at the corner of Ferry road and Madras street caused a small but spectacular fire last evening. The fire was extinguished soon after two machines, one of them the 100 ft turntable ladder, from the Central Fire Station arrived at 7.45 p.m. A fireman on top of the ladder was elevated to the sign, which was emitting large sparks, and he quickly extinguished the outbreak. Only slight damage was done to. the framework of the sign. A scrub fire in Ruru road was put out by units of the Christchurch Fire Brigade on Saturday afternoon.

Some damage was done to the wiring of a motor-cycle which caught fire in Oxford terrace. At 7.8 p.m. a call was received to 12 Mansfield avenue, where slight damage had been done to the walls of a shed at the home of Miss Margaret Kingston. Yesterday a unit from the Central Fire Station answered a call to an oven fire at the home of Mr R. T. Isitt, of 132 Fitzgerald avenue.

No damage resulted from a chimney fire at the residence of Mr J. C. Klingenstein, 97 Moorhouse avenue. It was attended at 5.28 p.m. by two units from the Central Fire Station.
