U.S.A. Concerned With Changes
(New Zealand Press Association) NEW PLYMOUTH, April 28. Reference to the important part played by the New Zealand Returned Services’ Association on the question of defence was made by the association’s Dominion President (Mr K. Fraser) speaking at the annual reunion dinner of the Taranaki Eastern Districts’ at Douglas last night. larJJiT, question 01 defence looms largely mday and there are cervU=nPr“Clples with which we, are ? c ° ncern ed,” he said. “This wm\ fe H t?r ° f defence is one that confereime CUSSed at the June
whZ*f. e question has arisen whether we are to halt compulsory military training or not. I' would say that the R.S.A. has an ™P-/ . part , to P la y in giving guidance to the people towards the eventual decision. Who better the R.S.A. is able to give such guidance to the people in aiding them to make up their minds about this vital matter? The time has come to consider the question of pushing buttons, the result of nuclear ideas. We cannot ignore the possibility that nuclear weapons will not be used. We find people talking about banning the nuclear weapon. What we have to be prepared for is in not being found without defence. I earnestly ask all members of our organisation to seriously give consideration to this question.”
