KETCH’S ROUGH VOYAGE
Auckland-Napier Trip
(New Zealand Press Association) NAPIER, April 28. A 35ft ketch arrived at Napier yesterday from Waiheke Island after a grim battle against high seas, strong head winds and rain squalls. The ketch, the Contessa, was recently purchased by Mr W. Plummer, of Napier. Sailing her south from Waiheke Island with a crew of three during the Easter vacation, the party had-to battle grimly for four days and nights off the east coast. The ketch lost a jib and its mizzen, j After sheltering near Gisborne the vessel found calm weather] until only four hours off Napier, , Then strong north-westerly winds blew her off-course to within half a mile of the tip of Cape Kidnappers, but the wind eased and the ketch sailed quietly into Napier. ‘‘We had some anxious moments. It was a really tough, Lnd trying trip,” said Mr Plummer.
