CANDIDATES FOR ELECTION
Labour Nominations Made
Nominations have closed for Labour Party candidates for Christchurch area seats in the General Election this year. The nominations received by the Christchurch Labour Representation Committee have been forwarded to the national headquarters of the party in Wellington, and it is from there that an official announcement of the candidates selected will come.
Sitting Labour members of Parliament can be sure of reselection, it is thought. Most interest will be shown in the choice of candidates for Lyttelton, which Labour thinks it has an excellent chance of recapturing, and St. Albans.
Two of the party’s candidates at the last General Election—Mr R. H. McDonald, who contested Fendalton, and Mr T. M. McGuigan, Lyttelton announced recently that they would not be available for selection this year. Both were regarded as having high chances of selection.
