Maternity Cases at Burwood

Because of overcrowding in Ward 8, the medical superintendent of Burwood Hospital asked for a policy decision by the North Canterbury Hospital Board regarding emergency admissions to the hospital. The hospital committee reported on Wednesday that it considered there was no obligation on the hospital to admit unbooked maternity . patients, maintaining that such patients should be directed either to Essex or St. Helens hospitals.
